SEEDING TOMATOES

This technique has two benifits. First, you can actually improve a dishes appearance and eliminate excess moisture by removing the seeds, but also you can save the removed seeds for planting.

Reasons you might want to seed your tomatoes before using them in a recipe might be......

Seeded tomatoes generally work better when making tomato soups or other dishes that need a creamy texture.

They don't add excess liquids to certain dishes such as casseroles or omelettes, so you don't get that watery run off.

The removed seeds can be saved and dried for planting the next season.

And it's so quick and easy to do.

It is basically an easy three step process......

  • First, cut the tomato in half horizontally.

  • Remove the stem.

  • Holding a tomato half over a bowl or sink, carefully scrape out seeds with a small spoon.

  • If you are planning on saving the seeds, squirt them on to a paper napkin so you can put them aside to dry and then store.

  • Another technique is to squeeze the tomato half until the seeds are forced out the cut end.

That's all there is to it. I told you it was easy!
Now slice, chop or dice the tomato as directed in your recipe and enjoy.
